This book is a compilation of letters written by my mother, Linnie Southard, from Paris, France in 1959 and 1960. My family was there while my father was on temporary assignment for his job, installing a computer system for the city government of Paris. While I have added some explanatory text, the letters are, for the most part, just as my mother wrote them. They give a close and personal glimpse of an intelligent, resourceful young woman living and taking care of a family for a short time as a stranger in a strange land, and doing a heck of a good job.

Through her writing you get a sense of her adventurous spirit, sense of humor, frustrations and accomplishments of being a stranger in a strange land. She is a Mother with three small children and a very busy husband who is helping change the world as we knew it, but I won't tell you how. I felt like I was there with Linnie and living it with her. Demar Southard does a great job editing and giving you some added history of an ordinary family from Texas and their adventures in France.Product details

Everyone seems to be into reality tv. This book fits the style but oh so much better. There's no real drama, no one gets shot and there's no sex but I could hardly put it down. In a series of letters spanning two years, we see into the lives of an ordinary family and it was fascinating and sweet.
I so loved this book! Very emotional! I sat down and read it entirely right after receiving it in the mail. DeMar's unusual sense of humor is just wonderful. I love his style of writing, which is very, very personal. He wrestles with his own thoughts throughout this book of actual true happenings. Wonderful!
